The Adventure Begins

Hello,
Let me introduce myself. I'm a grown woman - old enough to have seen Star Wars (IV now, but always #1 in my heart) when it first came out and as you can already tell - I'm a Geek. I have been going to fan conventions for over 20 years now and I loved to "dress up" for them. Yes, I do use the term cosplay now because it makes "dressing up" sound soooo much cooler. As with many of you geeks out there, I've been wanting to go to Comic-Con in San Diego - the holy grail of cons so to speak. Well, I finally decided to do it and I've also decided to blog about the experience (and geekdom in general). It is my goal to attend Comic-Con 2011 and I'm bringing my 16 year old niece with me (she's the one who taught me the term cosplay).

This is my story so far:

First of all I know enough about Comic-Con to know that you need to get tickets early. I've been stalking the official website for months now http://www.comic-con.org/. For the longest time it just simply said "registration coming soon". I marked the rss feed and waited for updates. I've found that they update on Facebook sometimes before the official website. I think I'll put all the little tips and hints I'm finding in green and call them jems - very 1980's of me don't you think. Become a fan of theirs on facebook for most up to the minute news (sorry, don't have the link to give you right now).

On Facebook I was disappointed to find that they announced registration was open for 4 day passes + preview night and then immediately announced they were sold out. It made it seem as if they had been sold online and sold out in a matter of seconds. Turns out they sold out of the 4day + preview night passes at Comic-Con 2010. So - a jem of info - if you go to the 2011 con and know that you're going to go again in 2012 - buy your tickets while at the 2011 con.

Since then they have announced that official online registration for Comic-Con International 2011 will be on November 1st at 9AM (Pacific Time). I've marked my calendar and blocked off an hour of time at my workplace so I can register as soon as it goes up.

I've begun looking at flights and hotel info but won't go into that yet. I figured it best to have the tickets first before going crazy with plans.

That's it for the moment. I'll share as I go and maybe I'll help some other newbies out with what I learn and my hope is that some of you that have gone to the con before will share tips and stories to help me because...I AM A COMIC-CON NEWBIE!
